A Chatswood Culture Bites production

' ½ stars an ideal introduction to opera for the young, the opera neophytes or those who seek an edited experience.' - Limelight

One of the greatest operas ever written, Mozart’s timeless classic leads the search for truth and justice, love and enlightenment.

Be enthralled by the adventures of Prince Tamino, an Asian price, and the bird-catcher Papageno on their quest to rescue Princess Pamina. To celebrate the wonderful diversity of Chatswood and Lunar New Year, Mozart’s masterpiece has been staged with an Asian aesthetic. Lost in a foreign land, Tamino is pursued by an enormous dragon, among the many trials and tribulations they must conquer. To assist their mission, they are given musical instruments with magical powers, which they deploy on their path towards a deeper understanding of true love and happiness.

Distinguished baritone Peter Coleman-Wright AO directs this pocket-sized one hour version of Mozart’s classic – The Magic Flute as part of Willoughby City Council’s Year of the Tiger Festival and Chatswood Culture Bites 2022 program.

The Magic Flute will be sung in German with English and traditional Chinese scene descriptions.

This production is produced in association with the Australia China Institute for Arts and Culture at the Western Sydney University.

Streamed from The Concourse, Chatswood.

Digital Ticket: $20 (direct to artists) plus a $4 charge for credit card fees and streaming costs. All digital tickets come with 72-hour viewing starting from the morning after the concert.

This event is part of Chatswood Culture Bites 2022, Willoughby City Council’s innovative program of music, theatre, comedy and more in Chatswood CBD.
