60 Tails - 60 Years of Guide Dogs

For 60 years, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT has been delivering life-changing services to people who are blind or vision impaired. Throughout this period, the organisation has experienced significant changes from the dogs we breed and train to the innovative accessible technologies that give people with vision impairment freedom and mobility. This exhibition tells the 60-year history of our wonderful Guide Dogs in photographs, on posters and hand-painted ceramic model dogs.

Since Guide Dogs NSW/ACT opened its doors in 1957:

  • Almost 2,000 Guide Dogs have been trained
  • Our Instructors and Puppy Raisers have walked around 5 million kilometres … which is the equivalent to six times to the moon and back plus 10 laps around the earth
  • Almost 25,000 people with sight loss, living in NSW/ACT, have benefited from our services

There will be opportunities to cuddle young Guide Dog puppies and pat our Ambassador dogs; watch a working Guide Dog demonstration and listen to the stories of achievement by some of our amazing clients.
